SEMOLINA STEAMED CAKE

Semolina Steamed Cake has taken social media by storm with its unique combination of semolina, jaggery, and coconut. What’s more? It’s eggless, single-serve, and can be prepared quickly. Lightly sweetened with jaggery and fluffy like idlis, this cake has become a viral sensation.

Makes: 3 steamed cakes

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup semolina
  • 1/4 cup rice flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon ghee
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon milk powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon fruit salt
    For middle layer:
    1 tablespoon jaggery powder
    1 tablespoon finely grated fresh coconut For sprinkle:
    1 tablespoon jaggery powder

Method:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine semolina and rice flour. Add salt, ghee, and milk powder. Mix well.
  2. Add milk and mix until smooth.
  3. Add fruit salt, mix, and cover. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  4. While the batter is resting, mix coconut and jaggery powder in a separate bowl. Grease three small bowls and keep them ready. Add water to a steamer and turn on the heat.
  5. Pour a little batter into each of the three molds.
  6. Sprinkle the jaggery-coconut mixture and cover it with the remaining batter.
  7. Place the molds into the steamer, cover, and steam cook for 12-15 minutes.
  8. Once cooked, remove from the steamer and let cool slightly. Unmold and sprinkle with jaggery powder.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!
