DRYFRUITS & SEEDS CHIKKI

Chikki is a traditional Indian & Pakistani sweet usually prepared from nuts and jaggery. Sometimes sugar is also used for preparing chikki. Though most common and popular variety in chikki is peanut chikki but there are several differnt varieties which are also consumed and prepared in the Indian households.
It is said that chikki was invented by candy shop owner named Maganlal from Lonavala, a hill station near Mumbai in 19th century.
Today, I have prepared chikki with several dry fruits and seeds. This nutrients packed chikkinis delicious and healthy option to satisfy your sweet cravings.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4 persons

Ingredients:
1 cup chopped mix dry fruits (almonds, cashew nuts, walnuts,pistachio)
1/2 cup mixed seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds)
1 cup grated jaggery
1 tbsp ghee
1 tbsp dry rose petals
1 tsp cardamom powder

Method:

  1. Dry roast nuts in a thick bottom pan , on a slow flame, lastly add seeds and dry roast for one more minute. Then turn off the flame and transfer in a plate.
  2. Heat jaggery in a thick bottom pan. Once it starts foaming and bubbling, add ghee and mix well.
  3. Then add nuts and seeds mixture, cardamon powder, rose petals and mix well quickly.
  4. Then turn off the heat and immediately transfer it to greased work place or on parchment paper and roll it with a rolling pin.
  5. Mark cuts and let it cool completely. Once it cools down then cut the pieces and then store it in an air tight jar.
