SOY STICKS & CHIPS

Soy sticks-chips are popular fried Indian snack prepared from Soy flour along with rice flour, wheat flour, gram flour and spices. This crispy and flavourful snack is not only favourite amongst kids but Indian spices turns this snack into best finger food. Soy sticks and chips are widely available in the market but we can prepare it at home and without any harmful preservatives, which is comparatively healthy than market bought sticks and chips. We can prepare both sticks and chips with same dough using differnt plates(jhali) of extruder (chakri machine).

Preparation time: 10minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Serves: 8-10 persons

Ingredients:
For dough:
1cup soy flour
1/2 cup rice flour
1/4 cup wheat flour (optional)
1/4 cup gram flour(besan)
1 tsp carom seeds
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp roasted cumin powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
For spice mix:
1 tbsp chaat masala
1 tsp black salt
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp roasted cumin powder
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
Other ingredients:
Oil for frying

Method:

  1. Mix all the flours, spices, salt and oil. Knead medium hard dough. Mix all ingredients of spice mix and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil, grease extruder with oil and place Chakri plate, fill with prepared dough and close the lid. Drop the sticks in a plate from the extruder.
  3. Then deep fry them on a slow to medium flame till they become crispy then transfer it to a plate. Immediately sprinkle the spice mix.
  4. For chips, place the plate with horizontal cuts and fill with dough and drop the chips and deep fry them in same way as sticks. Sprinkle spice mix once they are fried.
  5. Once they cool down completely, store then in an air tight container.

Note:

  1. Skip wheat flour for gluten free version.
