ROSE GULKAND MODAK

Lord Ganesha’s birthday – Ganesh Chaturthi is ten day long Hindu Festival, celebrated in many states of India. As we know, modaks are Ganesha’s favourite. Traditionally Ukadiche modak (steamed) is offered as prasad. But apart from steamed, fried modak and many other flavoured modaks are prepared and offered as prasad.
Unlike traditional steamed modak today I have prepared a very flavourful and aromatic rose flavoured modak with gulkand and nuts stuffing. This rose-kissed modak is ultimate festive treat,.filled with beauty of roses and prepared in a jiffy.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Makes: 10 modaks

Ingredients:
1 cup milk powder
1/4 cup milk
4 tbsp rose syrup
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp cardamom powder
1 tbsp ghee
2 tbsp fresh rose petals
Few drops red food colour
For stuffing:
2 tbsp gulkand
1 tbsp mix nuts
Silver leaf (varakh) for garnish

Method:

  1. For stuffing ix nuts and gulkand and keep aside.
  2. Heat ghee, add milk powder and milk, mix well and cook on a low flame till it turns like a thick mass.
  3. Then add cardamom powder, sugar, rose syrup, mix and cook for couple of minutes. Lastly add few drops of red food colour, mix and turn off the heat. Add rose petals and mix. Let it cool down.
  4. Once it cools down, take a greased modak mould, take some prepared mixture, add into modak mould and press it well, put some gulkand mixture, and again put some rose mixture, close the mould, press qnd set properly. Then carefully unmould the modak. Continue with rest of the mixture. Garnish with silver leaf.
  5. Our Rose Gulkand Modaks are ready to offer Ganesha.

Note:

  1. You can add desiccated coconut in Gulkand mixture. Use roasted nuts.
