CHURROS

Churros are fried dough pastry, originated in Spain and Mexico. They are very popular in USA as well. Traditional Churros come in a variety of shapes and sizes but the most common are sticks and loops. They are commonly consumed as a snack or in breakfast and sold in cafés and Street vendo carts. In Spain, Churros are drizzled with honey or sprinkled with sugar after frying while sprinkled cinnamon and sugar is common with Mexican Churros and this is the only difference between Spanish and Mexican Churros. Churros are commonly served with chocolate sauce and it tastes amazing with it. It’s tastes best warm.

Preparation time : 5 minutes

Cooking time : 15 minutes

Serves : 2 persons

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all purprpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp oil
Pinch of oil
1 cup boiling water
Oil for frying

For coating:
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup cinnamon sugar

For serving:
1 cup chocolate sauce

METHOD:
1. In a bowl, add flour, salt, and baking powder and mix. Add oil.

2. Add hot water gradually in it and combine it into a thick and gummy batter.

3. Transfer the dough into a piping bag with star nozzle. Heat oil.
4. Once the oil is hot, turn the flame to medium. Now carefully pipe the dough into oil and snip with scissors.

5. Deep fry it until it turns golden brown and crispy. Flip and roll occasionally, so it fries properly from all the sides.

6. Remove it with slotted spoon, drain excess oil and place it in a tissue lined plate.
7. Roll it in sugar or cinnamon sugar.

8. Serve warm or hot with chocolate sauce.

NOTE
1.Like anything deep fried, Churros also are at their prime when they are freshly made and served. They stay crisp upto 20-30 mins, then they turn soft. You can reheat in oven.
2. If you don’t have cinnamon sugar, mix 1-2 tsp cinnamon powder in 1/4 cup of powdered sugar.
