SATTU CHILLA SANDWICH

Sattu Chilla Sandwich

Sattu is flour made from roasted gram or roasted Bengal gram (chana). It is a highly nutritious, gluten-free ingredient also known as the “poor man’s protein” due to its affordability and high protein content, comparable to non-vegetarian food. It is widely used in Bihar and Jharkhand, but due to its health benefits, its usage has now spread further.

Many dishes can be made using sattu, such as paratha, puri, kachori, sherbet, laddoo, etc. Today, I made chilla (savory pancakes) using sattu, coriander, and spinach, and to make it more delicious, I added mayonnaise, ketchup, Schezwan sauce, cheese, etc., turning it into a sandwich. This makes a healthy and tasty snack for kids.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 2 people

Ingredients:

1/2 cup sattu

2 tbsp gram flour (besan)

2 tbsp rice flour

2 tbsp finely chopped coriander

2 tbsp finely chopped spinach (blanched)

1 tbsp finely chopped capsicum

2 finely chopped green chilies

1 tsp roasted cumin powder

1 tsp chaat masala

Salt to taste

Oil for cooking

For chilla sandwich filling:

1 tbsp mayonnaise

1 tbsp tomato ketchup

1 tbsp Schezwan sauce

2 cubes of cheese

Method:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add all three flours. Then add chopped chilies, coriander, and spinach.
  2. Add salt and dry spices, and mix with enough water to make a thick batter suitable for making chilla.
  3. Heat a mini uttapam pan or non-stick pan, grease it lightly. Pour a spoonful of batter and spread it. Drizzle some oil around it, cover and cook on medium heat.
  4. Once one side is cooked, flip it and cook the other side with a few drops of oil. Prepare all the chillas in this way.
  5. To make the sandwich, spread mayonnaise and both sauces over one chilla, grate some cheese on top, and place another chilla over it to make a sandwich.
  6. Your delicious, flavorful, and healthy chilla sandwich is ready. Enjoy! You can also eat plain chilla as is or add more vegetables as per your taste.
