SPINACH OATS APPES

Breakfast is the most important meal, and we must have it properly. Now that winter is here, we must include freshly leafy vegetables in our diet as much as possible. Today, I have prepared a quick and healthy breakfast that is delicious too. I have prepared Appes using oats, semolina, and spinach as key ingredients.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Serves: 2 persons

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup semolina
  • 1/2 cup coarsely ground oats
  • 1/4 cup spinach puree
  • 1/4 cup curd
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chilli flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

Method:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine semolina, oats, cumin seeds, red chilli flakes, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add curd and spinach puree, and prepare a medium-thick batter, similar to Idli batter. Add water if needed. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Grease the appe pan and turn on the flame. Check the batter; if it’s thick, add some water and whip it well. Then, add a spoonful of batter to each cavity and a few drops of oil on the sides. Cover and let it cook.
  4. Once cooked on one side, flip to the other side and let it cook. Add oil if needed.
  5. Serve hot with chutney, tea, etc.
