TOMATO OMELETTE
( TOMATO DHIRDE )

A tomato omelette is a popular Maharastrian breakfast dish and prepared often in Maharastrian households and served in restaurants/ canteens in breakfast. In Marathi, it is known as Tomato Dhirde and in Hindi it is known as Tomato Chilla. It is referred to as an omelette by its visual appearance, but this is a misnomer as it actually doesn’t contain eggs. The key ingredient is Gram flour.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 2 persons

Ingredients:
1 cup gram flour
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
1/8 tsp asafoetida
Salt to tast
1 finely chopped tomato
1 finely chopped onion
3 finely chopped green chillies
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander
Oil for cooking

Method:

  1. Take gram flour in a mixing bowl, add all dry spices. Add water and prepare lump free batter of medium consistency.
  2. Add all green vegetables and mix well.
  3. Heat the skillet, add ladleful of batter and spread it. Add few drops of oil on a sides.
  4. Flip it once it cooked from one side. Then add some oil and let it cook from other side. Continue with rest of batter.
  5. Serve hot with bread, green chutney and ketchup.
