GLASS IDLI

GLASS IDLI / TUMBLER IDLI

Soft and spongy idlis are a popular delicacy from the South Indian Cuisine. This popular snack is consumed as breakfast as well as a meal. Apart from making it in a modern Idli maker, Idlis are prepared in various leaves like jackfruit leaves, banana leaves, lotus leaves, therali leaves etc. In Karnataka, idlis were traditionally steamed in jackfruit leaves and these idlis known as Khotto or Kottiage and in Konkan known as Gunda idlis. In such method, uniform sized leaves are folded and interwoven with tiny sticks in a cup shape. Then idli batter is poured and steamed. In this method idli batter should be little thicker than usual to avaoid seeping between the leaves. But in this modern era, it is hard to get fresh leaves for those who lives in Urban places, so this glass idli/tumbler idli is invented as an alternative of this Udipi style Khottos. In this method the idli batter is filled into the glass or tumbler and then steamed. Even who don’t have idli maker can prepare idlis like this. Today, I have prepared stuffed glass idlis.
