FASTING ALMOND SHEERA
(Vrat ka sheera)


India is a large country with many states and many festivals are celebrated across India. Various cultures and religions lead to celebration of many religious festivals. Religious festivals are celebrated with various rituals, poojas, fasting along with enjoyment. And that’s the reason that so many fasting / vrat food is prepared in Indian households during religious festivals.
Water chestnut flour commonly known as Singhare ka aata is one of the most consumed fasting flour. Buckwheat flour also known as Kuttu ka aata is also used in fasting recipes. Both the flours are used in various fasting recipes like paratha, puri, halwa, sheera etc. Today, I have prepared sheera using these two flours. This sheera is not only perfect fasting recipe but it has health benenfits too. These gluten free flours are rich in antioxidants and give you energy. They have high levels of fiber and protein.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Serves : 4 persons

Ingredients:
1/2 cup water chestnut flour
1/2 cup buckwheat flour
1/2 cup almond powder
1 cup sugar
1 cup ghee
1 tbsp kismis
1 tbsp chopped cashew nuts
1 tbsp chopped pistachio
1 tsp cardamom powder
3 cup hot water ( approximately)

Method:

  1. Heat 3/4 cup ghee in a pan and sauté both flours on a slow flame till it becomes light and aromatic.
  2. Then add almond powder, mix and sauté for a couple of minutes. Add rest 1/4 cup ghee at this stage , as needed.
  3. Now add hot water gradually, while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
    When water is incorporated well, add sugar and cook till sugar melts and mixes well.
  4. Lastly add all the dry fruits and cardamom powder. Mix and cook for one minute. Then turn off the heat.
  5. Serve hot.

Note:

  1. You can increase the quantity of ghee.
  2. You can skip almond powder.
