BARLEY FLOUR HALVA ( JAU KA HALVA )

BARLEY FLOUR HALVA
(JAU KA HALVA )

Barley flour/Jau ka aata is a nutritious flour made from barley grains. Barley flour is popular alternative of wheat flour. It has a slightly nutty flavour and rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. In India Barley flour is used in making chapatis, pancakes, porridge and sweets like halva, ladoos etc. Even we can make cakes using barley flour.
I have prepared halva/sheera from barley flour with lots of dryfruits.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 3 persons

Ingredients:
1 cup barley flour
1/2-3/4 cup ghee
1/2 cup grated jaggery
1/4 cup roughly chopped mix dryfruits
1 tsp cardamom powder

Method:

  1. Heat ghee in a thick bottom pan and sauté barley flour on a low heat till it turns aromatic. While the flour is sauteing, melt jaggery in one cup of hot water and keep it ready.
  2. Once flour turns aromatic, add jaggery water and stir and mix properly.
  3. Then cook on a low flame till ghee separates and halva leaves the sides of pan.
  4. Add dry fruits and cardamom powder. Mix and turn off the heat.
  5. Serve hot.
