Bataka Poha is a popular Indian Breakfast dish which is more popular in Gujarat,Maharastra and Madhy Pradesh . Though process, ingredients and serving style varies state to state. In Maharastra Kanda Poha is more popular while in Madhy Pradesh poha is paired with ratlami sev, jalebi etc. In Gujarat, Bataka poha is more popular. You can add other veggies and ingredients like onion, tomato, green peas, peanuts, pomogranate etc as per your choice along with potato. This hearty snack can be prepared very quickly.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4 persons

Ingredients:
4 cups thick flattened rice ( poha )
2 potato ( boiled and diced )
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
Pinch of asafoetida
1 tbsp sugar
1 lemon
1 sprig curry leaves
3 chopped green chillies
1 tbsp finely chopped coriander

Method:

  1. Wash poha and transfer them in a colander.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, let them splutter. Once they splutter, add asafoetida, turmeric, green chillies, curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds. Now add boiled potatoes and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Then add poha, salt, sugar and mix with light hand. Cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
  4. Lastly add lemon juice, mix and turn off the heat.
  5. Sprinkle coriander and serve hot.
