BREAD PAKODA

Bread pakoda/Pakora is popular fried street food/snack of India as well as Pakistan. Bread pakodas usually consumed as a breakfast or tea time snack. Apart from street food joints, bread pakodas are also served in cafes, canteens and eateries. Also known as bread bhaji and they are simply prepared in two ways. One without stuffing and second with potato stuffing. Sometimes, you can add paneer slice along with bread and potato stuffing to make bread paneer pakoda. In other words we can say its a fried sandwich. Bread pakoda is more popular in north India.

Makes: 8 pakodas
Ingredients:
8 bread slices
For potato stuffing:
3 potatoes (boil and mashed)
1 tbsp finely chopped coriander
1 tbsp green chilli paste
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp chaat masala
1/2 tsp aamchur powder
Salt to taste
For pakoda batter:
1 cup gram flour
2 tbsp rice flour
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp carrom seeds
Salt to taste
Other ingredients:
1/4 cup green chutney
Oil for frying
Method:
- Add all the stuffing ingredients in mashed potato, mix well and keep aside.
- Add all batter ingredients in gram flour and prepare lumpfree medium thick batter by adding water.
- Cut the bread slices from centre to make triangle. Spread green chutney on 2 triangles. Then carefully spread potato stuffing on one triangle and then cover it with second triangle. Now this is ready to fry.
- Heat oik, dip the prepared sandwich triangle in prepared batter and carefully put in heated oil. Deep fry it from both sides and then remove with slotted spoon. Continue the same process with rest of bread and stuffing.
- Relish hot bread pakodas with tea.
