(SPLIT COW PEA – FENUGREEK LEAVES STEAMED CAKE)

Dhokla – a spongy steamed cake is a popular Gujarati snack, which can be served as a breakfast and as a side dish with meals. This wholesome and delicious dish can be a satisfying mini meal too. There is very large range of dhoklas which can are prepared oftenin Gujarati house holds. This delicious snack has spread it’s fame in non Gujarati communities too. Chola methi dhokla is healthy and flavourful dhoklas prepared from chola dal ( split cow peas ) and fenugreek leaves.

Soaking time: 4-5 hours + 2-4 hours
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup chola dal (split cow pea)
1 cup finely chopped fenugreek leaves
1 tsp green chilli paste
1 tsp fruit salt
For tempering:
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp sesame seeds

Method:
1. Wash and soak dal for atleast 4-5 hours.

2. Then grind it without adding water. Add little water if needed. Cover and keep aside for 2-3 hours.
3. Add green chilli paste, chopped fenugreek leaves, salt and mix well.

4. Heat water in the steamer. Grease the plate with oil. Add fruit salt in batter and mix well and pour batter in greased plate.

5. Place it in the steamer, cover and let it cook for 10-15 minutes.
6. Check and remove plate from steamer. After a while, cut and take out dhoklas.
7. Heat oil , add mustard seeds and sesame seeds and pour temparing over dhoklas.

8. Serve along with coriander chutney and ground nut oil.

Note:
1. You can skip tempering.
