MASALA KAND
( SPICED PURPLE YAM )

Purple Yam is a root which is rich source of Vitamin C. Like other roots apart from being used in fasting dishes in India, Purple Yam is added in very famous Gujarati delicacy ‘Undhiyu’.Apart from ‘Undhiyu’,Purple Yam is used in popular street food of Nathdwara-Rajasthan known as Masala Kand. It is fried yam with various spices, which makes it delicious.

Serves : 1

Ingredients:

1 cup chopped purple Yam

For spice mix:
1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp dry mango powder
1/2 black salt
1/2 tsp pepper powder
Pinch of asafoetida
Salt as needed
Oil for deep frying

Method:

1. Properly wash and clean yam, peel it and cut it in dices. Steam it for 5-7 minutes.

2. Mix all the ingredients of the spice mix.

3. Heat the oil and deep fry the steamed purple yam.

4. Then keep it in a tissue lined plate.

5. Sprinkle prepared spice mix and toss well. Relish.
