CATALAN CHICKPEAS AND SPINACH

Catalan Chickpeas with spinach is a Spanish dish which is very popular in ‘Tapas’ in Barcelona. ‘Tapas’ refers to a style of serving specific dishes in Barcelona/Spain. ‘Tapas’ maens ‘to cover’ in Spanish. Majorly appetizers or snacks are served in Tapas. ‘Catalan’ is a lanuguage and a community of Spain.
Catalan chickpeas and spinach is an iron rich and protein rich and comfort dish which can be prepared easily and quickly. Though as its name says, it seems like a simple dish but it’s preparation is unique in Catalan tradition.
Perfect blend of tastes and loaded with nutrition, makes this dish perfect option for healthy snacking.

Serves : 2 persons
Ingredients:
1 cup cooked chickpeas
1 cup baby spinach ( or chopped spinach)
1 small onion ( sliced )
5-7 garlic cloves ( chopped )
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp freshly crushed black pepper
6-8 raisins ( kismis )
3-4 chopped almonds
1 tsp pine nuts
1/2 tsp chilli flakes ( optional )
1 tsp oil
Salt to taste
Method:
1. Heat the oil and add onion slices.
2. Saute till it becomes translucent.
3. Further add chopped garlic, chilli powder and cumin powder.
4. Mix and saute for a while.
5. Add spinach.
6. Cover and cook till it wilts.

7. Now add chickpeas and raisins. Add salt and black peeper also. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes on a slow flame. Turn off the flame.


8. At the time of seeving sprinkle chilli flakes and nuts.
