DRY MOONG DAL

Yellow split dal is protein rich & easy to digest in comparison to other pulses. This recipe of dal is Gujarati special, which is often made with Aamras ( mango juice ) in summers.

Preparation time: 2 minutes
Cooking time : 10 minutes
Soaking time: 3 hours
Ingredients:
1 cup yellow split moong dal
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Pinch of asafoetida
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste.
Method:
1. Wash & soak dal for 3 hours.

2. Now heat oil in thick bottom pan or non stick pan. Give tempering of mustard seeds, asafoetida, add turmeric powder & red chilli powder & add soaked dal. Drain out water before adding dal.

3. Now add salt and mix well , add a little water about half cup only as our dal is soaked. Once it starts boiling, turn the flame on slow, cover the vessel and let it cook.

4. Once the dal is cooked and water is evaporated, it becomes dry. Turn off the heat. Do not over cook it , otherwise dal becomes mushy.

5. Serve hot.

Note:
1. Soaking dal decreases cooking time, if you are in a hurry you can skip soaking but then you have to add more water in it and it will take more time to cook.
