BATTERED DRUMSTICKS

Drumsticks are also known as Moringa. It has high nutritional value and health benefits. Not only drumsticks but it’s leaves are also very healthy. Drumsticks and it’s leaves – dried ,powdered – are used as medicinal property too. It is said that this powder are very helpful in joint pains.
We use drumsticks in sambar, vegetable, soups etc. Drumsticks prepared with gram flour tastes very delicious.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4 persons

Ingredients:

6 drumsticks
2 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander cumin powder
Pinch of asafoetida
Salt to taste

For gram flour batter:
1.5 cup gram flour
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Pinch of asafoetida
Salt to taste
For cooking drumsticks
1/4 tsp baking soda
Salt to taste

Method:

1. Cut the drumsticks into 2-3″ pieces and wash them. Heat 4-6 cups of water in a vessel and add salt and baking soda. Once it starts boiling, add drumstick pieces and let it cook.

2. Add all ingredients of gram flour batter in gram flour, mix and prepare thick and lumpfree batter by adding water.

3. Now heat oil in a pan, temper it with mustard seeds and asafoetida. After mustard seeds splutter,add about 3 cups of water and add all spices and salt. Remember drumsticks and batter already have salt so add salt accordingly.

4. Once water starts boiling, turn the flame on slow and add batter with one hand and keep stirring with the other hand to avoid forming lumps.

5. Keep stirring on slow flame till gram flour batter cook properly. It will take 5-7 minutes.
6. Once it cooks properly add cooked drumsticks and mix well with light hand and carefully. Cook it on slow flame for a couple of minutes. Then turn of the heat.

7. Serve hot with chapati/roti with your choice of condiments.

Note:
1. You can add sugar and lemon juice, if you like.
