RAJMA

Rajma is the Indian name for red kidney beans. These protein rich beans come in few varieties like, red rajma, chitra(spotted and striped), Jammu and are consumed mainly in India. As rajma is richest plant based protein source, it is referred as “poor man’s meat”.
Rajma is very popular North Indian Curry which taste best with rice and also with any flat breads. ‘Rajma-Chawal’ is a very popular combination, loved by all.

Preparation time : 20 minutes
Cooking time : 20 minutes
Serves : 4 persons
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cup Rajma(red)
3 onions
3 tomatoes
8-10 garlic cloves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp red chilli powder(kashmiri)
3 tbsp rajma masala or garam masala
3 tbsp oil
3 tbsp fresh cream
Salt to taste
Method:
1. Soak Rajma over night and pressure cook next morning. Pressure cook until they cook properly , soft and little mushy.

2. Make puree of tomatoes. Roughly chop onion and garlic and grind into paste.


3. Heat oil and sauté onion garlic paste , add all spices and sauté till oil separates from the mass.

4. Now add tomato puree and sauté for few more minutes on slow flame.


5. Finally add boiled rajma and salt, little water and mix well. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.


6. Add cream at the time of serving. Serve hot with steamed or jeera rice or any Indian bread.

Note:
1. Can use ghee instead of oil.
2. Can add more cream.
