MASALA PURI

Puri /Poori is a deep fried puffed bread majorly made from wheat flour. It was originated in the Indian subcontinent and is usually served with curry/bhaji ( vegetable preparation) as bf or mini meal and also be eaten in main meal with sweet dish. In mango season, aamras with puri is loved by all . This soft, puffed puris are mostly in all Indian functions.
Puris can be prepared plain and with few basic spices which is called Masala puri. It is also known as ‘locha puri’ in Gujarati house holds as when it cools down it becomes flat and more soft and tastes more yummy. Hot and puffed puris in meals and cold and flat puris with tea – any way we love puris.

Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 20 minutes
Serves : 4 persons

Ingredients:

2.5 cups wheat flour
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Pinch of asafoetida
Salt to taste
Oil for frying

Method:

1. Add all spices, oil and salt in wheat flourand knead medium hard dough. Cover for 10-15 minutes.

2. Knead well again and divide into marble sized balls and flat it with hand.

3. Heat oil, roll small puris.

4. Deep fry in hot oil. Once they puff, flip them. Fry only 3-4 puris at a time.

5. Drain extra oil properly with slotted spoon and remove.

6. Serve hot.

Note:
1. Oil should be medium hot, not too cold else puris will not puff properly.
