Moth Bean Green Meal ( Matki Khichdi)

Moth, Matki, Turkish Gram or Dew bean – whatever we say but it’s known to all of us ! This protein rich bean also contains vitamin B, magnesium, calcium, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, iron, copper, sodium and zinc. Protein helps in muscles building and providing energy while vitamin B is good help in furling the body. Generally we use matki as side dish. Sprouted matki is also used in salads. Here I mixed it with rice and lots of coriander to make a healthy, tasty and spicy one pot meal.

Ingredients :
Matki – 1/2 cup
Rice – 1/2 cup
Ghee – 1tbsp
Black pepper – 5 corns
Cardamom – 3 pieces
Cloves – 3 pieces
Cinnamon – 1” piece
Bay leaves – 2
Salt as per taste

Method :
1. Grind the following into a smooth paste. 2cup finely chopped coriander, 3-4 green chilis, 3-4 garlic cloves, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tbsp lemon juice and water as per need.
2. Soak moth bean for 7-8 hours or over night. Wash rice and drain out the water.
3. In a pressure pan, heat ghee and add all the dry spices. Sauté it for few minutes and add green paste.
4. Add soaked & washed moth bean, rice and mix carefully. Cook till three whistles.
5. Serve hot with curd and papad.
Note:
1. Can add more green chillis as per taste/ preference.
2. Can add chopped onions when you sauté dry spices.
